When do I operate best

Daily writing prompt
Are you more of a night or morning person?

For work, school, or general tasks, I’m definitely more of a morning person. My brain just works better. Later in the day I feel sluggish. It seems morning is also the best time to do most things since other people are still in bed. Stores are much quieter. Well, everything is much quieter.

However, I do think I have more fun in the evening. Maybe it’s because I’m more able to relax after I’ve done all my work? I think so.

Eating meats

Daily writing prompt
What are your feelings about eating meat?

I tend to feel guilty about eating meat. Conditions on factory farms are so horrible. Everything about it seems unethical.

I’ve become very detached from the process of how food is made, meats in particular. I think most people have. Sometimes it doesn’t even register to me that I’m eating parts of an animal.

Choosing food sources that are ethical, that give the animals adequate care, will be a focus of mine.

Instincts

Daily writing prompt
Do you trust your instincts?

I think of intuition as an unconcious knowledge; that you know what the right decision is, you just have to listen to what your unconcious mind is telling you.

I trust my instincts more than not.

Sometimes I’ll get an idea in my head about a person, maybe about their motivations or morals, and I’ll base my interactions with that person with what my intuition is saying about them.

Othertimes, I’ll be decing long-term plans for myself. If I can’t logially narrow my options down anymore, I choose what feels best to me.

There are times where you can’t verify if your instincts are correct. It can be hard to tell if your instincts are accurate since you can’t compare what has happened with what hasn’t happened. You probably won’t know that outcome of the other choices.

It’s important to judge each situation intuition leads you. To ensure it’s guiding your forward rather than holding you back.

Favorite place in my city

Daily writing prompt
What is your favorite place to go in your city?

There’s a large park in the mid-size city where I live that has miles of walking trails, a restaurant, and a couple mini museums. The park hosts events every month that are open to the public. It’s a very scenic place in a not-so-scenic city.

Reading goals

Daily writing prompt
What book are you reading right now?

Right now, I’m reading my favorites series as a kid, Percy Jackson and The Olympians. Currently on the last of the first five books but moving a bit slower than I would like.

I’m trying to get back into reading as much as I did when I was a kid and I’m thinking the best way to do that is by reading books that I can get actually interested in. I remember in school, there were mandatory readings and these always felt like a drag. Funnily enough my first ever mandatory reading was for the first book in what would become my favorites series.

After I finish this, I’ll move onto the next book set in the series. Ideally, I’d like to find things I haven’t read yet to give myself fresh inspiration.

Ideal living situation

Daily writing prompt
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I’m from the U.S. and I’ve thought a lot about the best state to live in. But, I feel there would always be something missing. There’s certain parts of the world that have well-established public transit and spaces open to the public, not just commercial lots for as far as you can see.

Really, I think my ideal living situation is in a better United States. I know improvements are possible and honestly necessary to improve quality of life here.

Car-centric infrastructure is the norm here. You can’t get anywhere without one, and it traps people in several monthly payments that they can barely afford. We should build avenues for multiple forms of transit, giving people options.

Of course a better health care system is a must. The current, privatized system is too expensive for the average person and locks certain people out of recieving affordable care. Since you’re ability to get healthcare is tied to your work, college students cannot access it.

Right now, the United States is struggling with a deep political divide. People can’t agree on what problems we’re having, let alone the solutions. This is really the number one priority, getting everyone on the same page. It will be difficult to fix.

Finding things

Daily writing prompt
What’s the coolest thing you’ve ever found (and kept)?

This prompt is reminding me that I haven’t done a lot of exploring in my life. I like collecting things, but there’s nothing that I have right now that I can pinpoint as the ‘coolest thing.’

I don’t know that I can say something like myself either, since I’m still struggling to understand what exactly I want from life and why.

To find cool things, you really just need to experience what the world has to offer. Unfortunately, I spend a little too much time in my head.

Perhaps I should force myself to go somewhere new every so often. I’d probably find a couple things. I also believe that you really need external stimulus for your internal monologue to actually be productive. Otherwise, you’ll just keep thinking in circles.

Getting stuff done

Daily writing prompt
What part of your routine do you always try to skip if you can?

My brain seems to dislike doing work. School work, actual work, sometimes personal work. I think it’s just trying to conserve energy. The thing is, most of my work doesn’t take that much energy. It’s annoying, because I know the work is easy, or at least doable, but sometimes I can’t find the motivation to start.

I think sometimes, you just have to force yourself to start working, even without motivation. Usually the motivation to finish will follow.

Podcasts

Daily writing prompt
What podcasts are you listening to?

I only listen to one podcast occasionally. It’s called Taskmaster: The Podcast. On it, they talk about Taskmaster, a game show in the UK where five comedians take part in tasks and are awarded points for their efforts. It’s a very casual, laid-back format.

If you’re interested, I recommend watching the show first since there’s a lot of spoilers on the podcast.

Cutting down on screen time

Daily writing prompt
How do you manage screen time for yourself?

Overuse of devices is draining a lot of people’s time away. Usually, people spend the most time on social media or games. Too much screen time has been linked to eye strain, headaches, and poor sleep. It can also contribute to depression and anxiety.

I personally believe that a lot of screen time can be warranted. Your job might be entirely remote and online and some people do online schooling. Poor use of screen time is linked to what people are looking at on those screens.

I have had a negative view of social media for a long time. It seems to me that the people who use it the most, are the most maladjusted to life. People often spend so much time scrolling, they don’t have time for anything else. I would say these people are addicted, and they need to confront this addiction like you would any other.

If you feel you truly don’t have self control, that you automatically open social media regardless of what you’re supposed to be doing, then you need to make it as hard as possible to access social media. A lot of the time, it’s best to just delete it. Very few people use it for any actual purpose beyond entertainment.

If you’re not ready to delete your accounts, then remove the applications from your devices, and use a webstie blocker.

When you stop using social media, you need to fill the gap it leaves. Ensure that you have a hobby, preferabbly an analog or physical one as opposed to digital.

The goal here is to replace the ‘hobby’ of scrolling on social media, to an actual productive one where you create something.

Gaming can be a bit tricky, since it is a hobby that brings people happiness. But, the best things are in moderation. If gaming is draining all of your time away, or if you feel it’s stopping you from being productive, then make it hard to access. You can unplug your systems and uninstall digital games form your computer.
